Terms of Use
Your use of Buglet is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The terms below add a few things specific to Buglet. If they conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins.
In plain English: Buglet's answers are AI estimates from a photo and can be wrong. Never handle a bug because of an answer in the app, and never use it to judge a bite, a sting or anyone's health.
1. Who these terms are with
Buglet is provided by Little Finders Club ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Buglet you agree to the Standard EULA and these supplementary terms. Apple is not responsible for Buglet or its content, except as set out in the Standard EULA.
2. Subscriptions
- Buglet is free to download. You can identify 3 bugs free; after that, identifying bugs requires an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store: yearly ($19.99 per year in the US, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers) or monthly ($3.99 per month in the US, no free trial). Both can be shared through Apple Family Sharing. Prices in other countries are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. With the free trial, your first payment is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions.
- If you allow notifications, we'll remind you two days before your free trial ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com; we never receive your payment details.
- Fair use: subscriptions include up to 40 scans a day. We may adjust this with notice in the app.
3. AI identifications are estimates
Buglet identifies insects, spiders and other small creatures using AI provided by Google (see our Privacy Policy). A photo can't show everything: many species look nearly identical, some harmless bugs mimic dangerous ones (and the other way round), and blur, distance, lighting and life stage all fool a camera. Results, including names, confidence, "Friend or foe?", "Could also be" and facts, are informed estimates, not certainties, and can be wrong. For anything that matters, ask a local extension service, museum, nature centre or pest professional.
4. Safety: not for safety or health decisions
Buglet is for curiosity and learning. It is not a medical, pest-control or safety tool.
- Never touch, catch or handle a bug because of an answer in Buglet. A wrong identification could make a dangerous spider, caterpillar, scorpion or stinging insect look harmless. Buglet shows "Don't touch! Tell an adult." for anything that can sting or bite, but treat every unknown bug as one you shouldn't touch.
- Buglet doesn't identify bites, stings, rashes or skin, and gives no medical advice. If someone is bitten or stung and feels unwell, get medical help right away. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
- "Look closer" checks are observation only: from a safe distance, or by zooming in on your photo.
- Children should use Buglet with a parent or guardian, especially outdoors.
- Buglet never recommends killing bugs or using pesticides. If you have a pest problem, ask a qualified professional.
5. Exploring responsibly
You're responsible for where you explore. Respect parks, nature reserves and private land, follow local rules, leave nests, hives and webs alone, and stay safe around water, heights and traffic.
6. Your photos and notes
Your photos and notes stay yours. You give us permission to send the photos you choose to scan to our server and to Google, only to produce your result, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only scan photos you have the right to use, and photograph bugs, not people.
7. Acceptable use
Don't misuse Buglet or its server: don't try to get around scan limits or the subscription, reverse-engineer or overload the service, or use it to build a competing dataset or service. We may limit or block access for misuse.
8. Availability and changes
Identification needs an internet connection and depends on our server and Google. We work to keep it running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may improve, change or discontinue features, with notice in the app where we reasonably can.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Buglet and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as also set out in the Standard EULA. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from relying on an identification, verdict, safety flag or suggestion. Our total liability for any claim relating to Buglet is limited to the amount you paid for Buglet in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Governing law
These supplementary terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION], except where the law of your country of residence gives you mandatory consumer protections, which still apply.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. If you keep using Buglet after a change, the updated terms apply.
