Subscription & billing
How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions › Buglet › Cancel Subscription. You can also get there from Buglet: Settings › Manage subscription.
Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the end of the time you've paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
How does the free trial work?
The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial. If you allow notifications, we remind you on day 5. If you don't cancel, the yearly subscription ($19.99 in the US, shareable with your family) starts when the trial ends. The monthly plan ($3.99) has no trial. Every new install also gets 3 free scans.
How do I restore my purchase on a new phone?
Sign in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with, open Buglet and tap Settings › Restore purchases. Your Bugdex doesn't move automatically; see below.
Can my whole family use one subscription?
Yes. Both plans support Apple Family Sharing, so everyone in your family group can use Buglet on their own iPhone.
I was charged and want a refund
Apple handles payments and refunds; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is there a daily scan limit?
Yes, a generous one: up to 40 scans a day, including during the free trial.
Safety
What does "Don't touch! Tell an adult." mean?
Buglet shows this red banner for any bug that can sting, bite or has irritating hairs, even helpful ones like bees and garden spiders, and whenever it can't rule out a dangerous look-alike. It's deliberately cautious. Please keep a safe distance and let a grown-up decide what to do.
Can Buglet tell me if a bite or sting is dangerous?
No. Buglet identifies bugs, not bites, stings or skin, and it gives no medical advice. If someone is bitten or stung and feels unwell, get medical help right away. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
Buglet said a bug is harmless. Can my child pick it up?
We'd rather you didn't. Identifications from a photo can be wrong, and some harmless-looking bugs aren't. Buglet's advice is always to watch from a safe distance, and only a grown-up should ever move a bug.
Does Buglet tell me how to get rid of pests?
Buglet never suggests killing bugs or using pesticides. For pests it may suggest gentle ideas, like welcoming ladybugs or covering food. For a real infestation, contact a qualified pest professional.
Scanning & accuracy
Tips for better scans
- Zoom in, don't move closer. Never pick a bug up to photograph it.
- Daylight and a steady hand: blurry photos of moving bugs are the most common problem.
- Get the whole bug in the frame, from above or the side, with legs, wings and antennae visible.
- One bug per photo.
- Photograph the bug, not a bite: Buglet identifies bugs only.
How accurate is Buglet?
Buglet uses AI to identify bugs from a photo. It does best with sharp photos of common bugs, and in our tests on clear photos it named most of them correctly. Many species are hard to tell apart from a photo, so every result shows a confidence level, "Could also be" look-alikes and a "Look closer" check you can do just by looking. Treat a result as a well-informed starting point.
How many bugs does Buglet know?
Thousands: insects, spiders and other creepy-crawlies from all over the world. The Bugdex is the 68 bugs you're most likely to meet, to collect and tick off. Anything else you find still gets identified and saved as a bonus bug.
What does "Friend or foe?" mean?
It tells you what the bug means for your garden and home: a friend (pollinators, pest-eaters and recyclers), a pest (eats plants, food or homes), harmless (just passing through) or careful (can sting or bite in a way that matters). Plus a simple "what to do".
Buglet got my bug wrong. What can I do?
Try the "Look closer" check and rescan a sharper photo. If it's still wrong, email us the photo and what you think it is. It really helps.
Does Buglet work offline?
You can browse your Bugdex, badges and map offline, but identifying a new bug needs an internet connection. No signal? Take the photo with your camera and scan it from your photo library later.
Your Bugdex & privacy
Where is my Bugdex stored? Will it move to a new phone?
On your iPhone, and, if you're signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud, so it follows you to a new phone signed in to the same Apple Account. It's never uploaded to us. You can turn iCloud backup off in Buglet's Settings.
What happens to the photos I scan?
The photo goes securely to our server, which passes it to Google's Gemini AI (on a paid plan, so it isn't used to improve Google's products) and returns the result. Our server doesn't keep the photo. See our Privacy Policy.
Does Buglet know where I am?
Only if you turn on the finds map ("Pin my finds"). Then the place is saved with each find on your phone, never sent to us. Turn it off anytime in Buglet's Settings.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up or login.
