Terms of Use
Your use of Sprout Scout is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The terms below add a few things specific to Sprout Scout. If they conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins.
In plain English: Sprout Scout's answers are AI estimates from a photo, and you should never use the app to decide whether a plant is safe to eat, touch, use as medicine or give to a pet.
1. Who these terms are with
Sprout Scout is provided by Little Finders Club ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Sprout Scout you agree to the Standard EULA and these supplementary terms. Apple is not responsible for Sprout Scout or its content, except as set out in the Standard EULA.
2. Subscriptions
- Sprout Scout is free to download. You can identify 3 plants free (plus a free sample scan); after that, identifying plants requires an auto-renewing subscription, sold through Apple's App Store: yearly ($19.99 per year in the US, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers) or monthly ($3.99 per month in the US, no free trial). Both can be shared with your family through Apple Family Sharing. Prices in other countries are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. With the free trial, your first payment is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone.
- If you allow notifications, we'll remind you two days before your free trial ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds directly because we never receive your payment details.
- Fair use: to keep the service fast and affordable for everyone, subscriptions include up to 40 identifications a day. We may adjust these limits with notice in the app, and won't lower them below what a typical family needs.
3. AI identifications are estimates
Sprout Scout identifies plants (leaves, flowers, trees and houseplants) using artificial intelligence provided by third parties (see our Privacy Policy). A photo can't show everything: many plants look alike, and lighting, season, age, damage, pruning, cultivars, hybrids and the part of the plant in the photo can all fool a camera. Results, including names, confidence levels, "Safe to touch?" notes, "Could also be" suggestions and facts, are informed estimates, not certainties, and can be wrong. For anything that matters, check with a local field guide, a botanic garden, a plant nursery, a county extension service or a qualified botanist.
4. Plant safety: not for safety decisions
Sprout Scout is for curiosity and learning. Never use it to decide whether a plant, berry, seed, nut or mushroom is safe to eat, taste, touch, use as medicine or herbal remedy, or give to a pet. Plants look alike, and a wrong identification could make a poisonous plant look harmless.
- Never eat wild plants, berries or mushrooms, and don't let children put leaves, berries, seeds or flowers in their mouths. Many are poisonous, and some have harmless-looking look-alikes.
- Some common plants are poisonous to children, cats or dogs. Examples include foxglove, oleander, yew and lily of the valley. Lilies are especially dangerous to cats. Many houseplants and garden plants are harmful if chewed or swallowed.
- Some plants irritate or burn skin, such as poison ivy, poison oak, stinging nettle and giant hogweed. Look, but don't touch plants you can't name for certain, and wash your hands after handling any wild plant.
- The "Safe to touch?" note on a result is a general hint based on an estimated identification. It is not a guarantee, and if the identification is wrong the note is wrong too.
- If a child or pet may have eaten a plant, act immediately. In the US call Poison Control on 1-800-222-1222; elsewhere contact your local poison centre. You can also call your vet or emergency services. Don't wait for symptoms and don't rely on Sprout Scout.
- Sprout Scout does not give medical, veterinary or herbal-medicine advice.
- Respect the places you explore: many parks, nature reserves and protected areas forbid picking plants or digging them up, and some plants are rare or legally protected. Look and photograph, don't pick. Stay on paths and stay safe around water, steep ground and traffic, and have children explore with an adult.
5. Your Leafdex, photos and notes
Your photos, notes and Leafdex stay yours and stay on your iPhone. You give us permission to send the photos you choose to scan to our server and AI providers, only to produce your result, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only scan photos you have the right to use, and don't use Sprout Scout to upload anything illegal or that isn't a photo of a plant or similar subject. Please photograph only plants, not people.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse Sprout Scout or its server: don't try to get around scan limits or the subscription, reverse-engineer or overload the service, or use it to build a competing dataset or service. We may limit or block access for misuse.
7. Availability and changes
Identification needs an internet connection and depends on our server and AI providers. We work to keep it running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may improve, change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service, we'll give notice in the app where we reasonably can.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sprout Scout and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as also set out in the Standard EULA. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss or harm arising from relying on an identification, a "Safe to touch?" note or any other content, including any injury, illness or poisoning. Our total liability for any claim relating to Sprout Scout is limited to the amount you paid for Sprout Scout in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Governing law
These supplementary terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION], except where the law of your country of residence gives you mandatory consumer protections, which still apply.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. If you keep using Sprout Scout after a change, the updated terms apply.
