Terms of Use
Your use of Rockbud is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The terms below add a few things specific to Rockbud. If they conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins.
In plain English: Rockbud's answers are AI estimates from a photo, value ranges are rough guides, and you should never use the app to decide whether something is safe to touch, lick, eat or heat.
1. Who these terms are with
Rockbud is provided by Little Finders Club ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Rockbud you agree to the Standard EULA and these supplementary terms. Apple is not responsible for Rockbud or its content, except as set out in the Standard EULA.
2. Subscriptions
- Rockbud is free to download. You can identify 3 rocks free; after that, identifying rocks requires an auto-renewing subscription, sold through Apple's App Store: yearly ($19.99 per year in the US, with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers) or monthly ($3.99 per month in the US, no free trial). Both can be shared with your family through Apple Family Sharing. Prices in other countries are shown in the app before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. With the free trial, your first payment is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone.
- If you allow notifications, we'll remind you two days before your free trial ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds directly because we never receive your payment details.
- Fair use: to keep the service fast and affordable for everyone, subscriptions include up to 40 scans a day. We may adjust these limits with notice in the app, and won't lower them below what a typical collector needs.
3. AI identifications are estimates
Rockbud identifies rocks, crystals and minerals using artificial intelligence provided by third parties (see our Privacy Policy). A photo can't show everything: many minerals look alike, and lighting, size, weathering, dyes, coatings and imitations (glass, plastic, lab-grown or treated stones) can all fool a camera. Results, including names, confidence levels, properties, "Could also be" suggestions and facts, are informed estimates, not certainties, and can be wrong. For anything that matters, confirm with a physical test, a field guide, a local rock club, a museum or a qualified geologist or gemologist.
4. Value ranges are not appraisals
Value ranges are rough estimates for a typical specimen of the identified material, based on general market information. They are not appraisals, offers or guarantees, and they don't account for your specimen's size, quality, treatment, locality, provenance or current demand, all of which can change prices a lot. Don't rely on them to buy, sell, insure, or settle a dispute; use a qualified appraiser.
5. Safety: not for safety decisions
Rockbud is for curiosity and collecting. Never use it to decide whether a mineral is safe to handle, lick, taste, eat, inhale, heat, burn, cut, or put in water you drink or bathe in. Some minerals are toxic or hazardous: for example, cinnabar contains mercury, realgar and orpiment contain arsenic, galena contains lead, some asbestos minerals release dangerous fibres, and uranium minerals are radioactive. A wrong identification could make a hazardous mineral look harmless.
- Don't lick, eat or heat unknown minerals, and don't make "crystal water" or elixirs from them.
- Wash your hands after handling unknown specimens, and avoid making or breathing dust.
- Keep small specimens away from young children, as they can be choking hazards.
- "Confirm it" tests (streak, scratch, magnet, fizz) are simple, but use common sense: work with adult supervision for kids, use eye protection when scratching or breaking rocks, and use only household-strength vinegar for the fizz test.
6. Crystal lore is folklore
If you choose to see crystal lore, it describes traditional, cultural and historical beliefs about stones. It is shared for interest only. It is not medical, health, psychological or financial advice, and it is not a claim that any stone has healing or other powers. Talk to a qualified professional about any health concern.
7. Collecting responsibly
You're responsible for where and how you collect. Many parks, beaches, protected areas and private lands restrict or forbid collecting. Get permission, follow local laws and signs, and stay safe around cliffs, mines, quarries, water and tides. Rockbud doesn't tell you whether collecting is allowed anywhere.
8. Your photos and notes
Your photos and notes stay yours. You give us permission to send the photos you choose to scan to our server and AI providers, only to produce your result, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only scan photos you have the right to use, and don't use Rockbud to upload anything illegal or that isn't a photo of a rock, crystal, mineral or similar object.
9. Acceptable use
Don't misuse Rockbud or its server: don't try to get around scan limits or the subscription, reverse-engineer or overload the service, or use it to build a competing dataset or service. We may limit or block access for misuse.
10. Availability and changes
Identification needs an internet connection and depends on our server and AI providers. We work to keep it running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may improve, change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service, we'll give notice in the app where we reasonably can.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rockbud and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as also set out in the Standard EULA. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from relying on an identification, value range, lore or test suggestion. Our total liability for any claim relating to Rockbud is limited to the amount you paid for Rockbud in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Governing law
These supplementary terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION], except where the law of your country of residence gives you mandatory consumer protections, which still apply.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. If you keep using Rockbud after a change, the updated terms apply.
